Norwich Castle

We visited Norwich Castle on our way home from the east coast....on a grey and windy day....

It was so windy, in fact, that there were no battlement tours.  Shame!

It's "quite" expensive to get in to the castle - I took this to be a good sign of a fabulous attraction to be explored.  It didn't quite turn out to be like that though.

I guess that Norwich Castle was always going to be on a hiding to nothing after we'd spent the previous week  discovering some of Scotland's best fortifications.  It's much more of a museum set inside a castle (with a small c) than a Castle, boasting nooks and crannies, hidden staircases, and with historical blood dripping out of every garderobe.  Interesting, but not very castle-y.

The history of the place as a gaol is presented rather drily, as are the exhibits and the art.  I think I would go back, alone, for a more thorough look, but as a Dad & Lad destination it is waaay down our list.
